David Karp, associate dean of student affairs and director, campus life and student conduct, attended a Conference on Restorative Justice, Responsive Regulation & Complex Problems in July at the University of Vermont, Burlington. He gave the keynote address, titled 鈥淐ollege Student Misconduct, Restorative Justice, and Student Development: Findings from the STARR Project (Student Accountability and Restorative Research Project)鈥�; and led a half-day pre-conference workshop with Duke Fisher on 鈥淩J for College Student Misconduct.鈥�

Also in July he was a visiting scholar at the University of Sassari, Sardinia, Italy, with Anna Bussu. They presented a half-day workshop on Restorative Justice for Juvenile Justice Social Workers.

From June 22-27 Karp attended the second International Symposium on Restorative Justice, held in Skopelos, Greece, where he presented a paper titled 鈥淢anaging Microaggressions in Restorative Justice Conferences.鈥� The symposium, which had as its theme 鈥淩ace and Power,鈥� took place under the auspices of the Restorative Justice for All Institute (RJ4All). A total of 25 academics and practitioners representing 10 countries who are international leaders in the fields of race equality, restorative justice and criminal justice came together to debate in a Greek Symposium method what needs to be done about race inequality and power imbalances in our modern societies. Issues were raised around indigenous, aboriginal, migrant, refugee and black and minority ethnic communities.

Jay Rogoff, visiting assistant professor of English, conducted public pre-performance interviews with New York City Ballet master in chief Peter Martins and NYCB principal dancer Wendy Whelan at the Saratoga Performing Arts Center during the company鈥檚 July residency. On July 14, in his role as the Saratoga Shakespeare Company鈥檚 board president and dramaturg, he delivered a talk at the Saratoga Springs Public Library called 鈥淲hodunnit? An Introduction to Macbeth,鈥� before the company鈥檚 two-week run of Shakespeare鈥檚 tragedy in Congress Park.

Publications, Exhibitions & Performances

Victor Cahn, professor emeritus of English, will star in a performance of his play, Roses in December, Oct. 15 at the Saratoga Springs Public Library. Devra Cohen-Tigor will join Cahn in the free performance, scheduled at 7:30 p.m. in the H. Dutcher Community Room.

Doretta Miller, professor of art, is one of four Skidmore artists with work in the juried at Albany Institute of History and Art. The exhibition, one of the longest-running regional art exhibitions in the country. The show closes Jan. 19, 2015.

Jay Rogoff, visiting assistant professor of English, is the author of "Happy and Wretched in Boston," an essay-review of the Mark Morris Dance Group's production of Acis and Galatea, published in Ballet Review, Vol. 42, No. 3 (Fall 2014).

In addition, he has recently published several poems: 鈥淭he Good Death鈥� in Epoch, Vol. 63, No. 1 (Spring 2014); 鈥淓namel Eyes鈥� in , No. 146 (Summer/Fall 2014, ; 鈥淟e Jardin des Tuileries鈥� and 鈥淢onet in England鈥� in The Southern Review, Vol. 50, No .3 (Summer 2014); 鈥淔irst Negative鈥� in The Hudson Review, Vol. 67, No. 2 (Summer 2014); and 鈥淪wanilda Arms for War鈥� and 鈥淪wanilda鈥檚 Dowry鈥� in the British journal POEM, Vol. 2, No. 2 (Summer 2014).鈥ㄢ�淐hildhood鈥檚 End,鈥� his review of a performance by the Mark Morris Dance Group, appeared in Ballet Review, Vol. 42, No. 2 (Summer 2014), and 鈥淗eaven and Earth in Balanchine鈥檚 Philosophy,鈥� an essay-review of four George Balanchine 鈥渂lack-and-white鈥� ballets performed by the New York City Ballet, appeared in The Hopkins Review, Vol. 7, No. 3 (Summer 2014), where he serves as dance critic. He also covered the summer 2014 New York City Ballet season as well as performances by Momix and the Bolshoi Ballet at the Saratoga Performing Arts Center for The Saratogian.
